I have more than 15 years of experience in community journalism, with a track record of success at every level. As a reporter, I established myself as the go-to person in a very busy newsroom, reliably producing six to 10 stories each week and playing a key role in the newspaper’s coverage of the legalization of same sex marriage, the proposed development of a wind farm in Nantucket Sound and the experiences and struggles of people under 40 living on the Outer Cape.
As an editor, I managed multiple weekly newspapers simultaneously, producing award-winning content and managing more than a dozen reporters, as well as managing websites and social media. As a managing editor and manager, I directed the daily operations of multiple publications across the region, which required me to develop new strategies for creating content across the region and for producing almost 100 publications each week.
Throughout my career, I have been praised for my consistency, reliability and accuracy; for my skill as a mentor to new journalists; and for my ability to develop new systems from scratch and troubleshoot problems. When the company launched its new content management system, I was tapped to be the first in my office to adapt it and train my colleagues in its use. When a longtime editor retired after many years, I was asked to take over her publications and manage her experienced staff.
For more than 15 years, I have written and edited stories striving not just for fairness, completeness and accuracy, but to answer the questions of what they mean and why they should matter for readers.
